Cairo (Durbaan Media ) – On Wednesday, Egypt’s Foreign Minister, Badr Abdelatty, held official talks in Cairo with his Somali counterpart, Ahmed Moallim Fiqi, reaffirming Egypt’s full support for Somalia’s sovereignty, unity, and stability amid ongoing political tensions in the Horn of Africa.

During the meeting, Abdelatty emphasized Egypt's commitment to safeguarding Somalia's territorial integrity and political unity, stressing its importance in addressing growing security challenges.

He also highlighted the need for strong cooperation between Egypt and Somalia in fighting terrorism and extremist ideologies that threaten regional peace and stability.

Abdelatty called for greater regional and international efforts to combat terrorism and tackle the root causes of violence and instability. He reiterated Egypt’s readiness to support Somalia in rebuilding its state institutions and restoring full stability.

Both ministers underlined the importance of continued collaboration on regional and international issues, especially discussions related to the Horn of Africa. They praised the long-standing historical and friendly ties between their countries, built on deep cultural, political, and religious exchange.

Given Egypt’s broader regional interests, especially its dispute with Ethiopia over the Nile’s Grand Renaissance Dam (GERD), this renewed support for Somalia reflects not just diplomatic friendship but also Egypt's strategic aim to strengthen its influence in the Red Sea and the Horn of Africa—regions of rising geopolitical competition.

Minister Fiqi, for his part, thanked Egypt for its consistent support, especially during times of political uncertainty and external pressure, and reaffirmed Somalia's commitment to enhancing bilateral relations to jointly work for peace, development, and stability in the region.
