Mogadishu (Durbaan media) – Further details have emerged regarding a series of mortar shells fired today at Halane Camp within Aden Adde International Airport. The attack comes shortly after the recent security warning issued by the U.S. Embassy in Mogadishu.

The embassy had previously stated that it had obtained “credible information regarding the possibility of imminent attacks” in the capital, highlighting multiple potential targets, including Aden Adde International Airport, which was struck today.

Reports indicate that some of the mortar shells landed inside the Halane compound, while others fell outside its perimeter, according to local sources. The explosions were heard across several districts in Banadir region, though the exact number of casualties remains unclear.

Following the attack, emergency sirens were activated within the airport to warn personnel of the security threat, leading to heightened tension in the area.

So far, security officials have not released any statements regarding the mortar attack on Halane, which houses international organizations, embassies, and foreign military personnel operating in Somalia.

Al-Shabaab has previously carried out similar mortar attacks in Mogadishu, often targeting key locations such as the presidential palace, Halane camp, and other critical sites. The last mortar attack on the airport occurred when Ethiopian Prime Minister Abiy Ahmed arrived in Mogadishu on an official visit.

That attack caused civilian casualties, as some of the mortar shells hit residential areas. Many of the victims are still recovering from their injuries.

Today's attack is part of the ongoing security challenges in the capital, despite increased operations by the federal government to enhance security and combat Al-Shabaab across the country.
